About the Presentation
Melvin Tennant, CAE, is president and chief executive officer of Meet Minneapolis, Convention and Visitors Association, and executive director of Sports Minneapolis. He became Meet Minneapolis’ second CEO in 2008. Previously, he served in similar capacities in San Antonio, Texas; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Oakland, California.
Tennant has proved himself a leader in the travel and meetings industries and has served on many boards in his career. Currently, he is chairman of the board for Religious Conference Management Association (RCMA) and is the first supplier to serve in this position in the organization’s history.
Tennant first joined MPI Carolina’s Chapter in 1992 and has served on the International Board, Executive Committee and the International Foundation Board. He originally joined MPI to grow professionally and became involved in leadership roles as a way to give back to the organization. Over the years, he’s benefitted from MPI’s educational opportunities as well as establishing and maintaining long-term business relationships.
Mentoring has always been important to Tennant and he’s served as an unofficial mentor to many industry colleagues. He also mentors several young people in his community – advancing their careers and helping them through life choices.
Tennant and his wife Julie have eight grandchildren.
